Trinity Vision Center was founded by Dr. Thomas Scannell, OD in 1994.
Dr. Thomas J. Scannell, OD, FAAO is a therapeutic optometrist who established Trinity Vision Center of Boerne in 1994. He grew up in Salem, Ill, a small farming, oil community near St. Louis, Mo. After graduating Cum Laude fromthe Illinoise College of Optometry, he enterd the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Optometry at Wheelus AB, Tripoli, Libya. He provided vision care services to military families in Libya, Greece, France and Italy. What a wonderful way to start traveling the world! From Libya, Dr. Scannell served 2 years as a clinical optometrist at Travis AFB, Ca. Finding military life in the US boring after his years overseas, he established a private pediatric vision practice in Homestead, Fla to serve children with learning disabilities and visual handicaps. He married his lovely wife, Jo, in Tripoli and they adopted 2 infant boys in Fla. One son had special medical needs that moved the family to return to military life so Dr. Scannell could help more at home. He returned to the active Air Force at Andrews AFB, MD in the flight surgeon’s office for the presidential airlift squadron. From Andrews, the family spent 4 years at Hahn AB, Ger., 4 years at Shaw AFB, S.C., 3 years at Clark AB in the Phillipines ending up at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Scannell retired from the Air Force in the rank of Lt Colonel in 1989 and returned to private practice in San Antonio and Boerne. Dr. Justin Kim purchased the Boerne practice in 2007 and has graciously permitted Dr. Scannell to continue practice on a part time basis since then. This allows him to continue seeing many patients who have become friends over the years and, most importantly, to always meet is goal of helping everyone to ‘see better’ and see comfortably with healthy eyes.
